But you must realise, we'd happily dump NI on anyone daft enough to take it. THe PBI went there in 1969 to protect the Catholics (not a smart move in hindsight) after the United Ulster Maniac faction in charge tried its own version of apartheid. We've done our imperial bit and overall it was a pretty good thing, especially the bits where we got to stay long enough to inculcate free markets, democracy and cricket. Since we weren't greedy enough to really exploit our colonies, especially by about 1830 or so when we got the vote at home and it wasn't just a private enterprise for a few aristos, we found they were actually rather expensive to run. We were just slow getting out. (Churchill was vrai aristo, BTW - related to the Marlborough's. Blenheim Palace is not yer average family pad). Now I know you're unhappy about not having anyone to complain to or about, but tough. S'your turn to make the world safe for democracy, just try not to piss everyone off so much they'd rather have something else...
