That may be true, one other thing that I thought about after we talked is when did aircraft start having designator's other that VA. In the beginning their were two designators VA was for "heavier than air" aircraft and blimps had other designations. So perhaps early on all squadrons were VA's and then distinctions were made. Just a thought, needs research.
