let's make our arguments and try not to thrash it to death. I honestly doubt if the participants in this debate are going to change their stripes so at some point we start going in circles.

I don't mind the talk, Ken and Tim. But I do agree about the circles business. I've dropped out because of that. The dilemma became obvious--stay at the level of generality these discussions presently frame themselves which leaves discussions more as debating points; or drop to specific instances--steel, for instance--but that requires actually researching a good bit of specific details. And I'm not interested in doing that.

Lots of good papers in the foreign policy journals on this subject. I'd suggest the participants in this discussion should have read at least a few espousing different points of view.

Now that's not a bad idea. There was the one paper tek put up which several of us discussed for a while. If there are others someone(s) might make some suggestions. It's not an area in which I do much reading so I'm not the person to do so.
