actually tariffs brought in so much revenue that politicians were afraid of what we should do with it all. i admit that today tariffs would not be enough to fund such a large and unwieldy bureaucracy. so i am in favor of supplementing tariff revenue with a national sales tax. of course i think we should shut down most of the government so i don't believe we need that many revenues. unfortunately this is just a fantasy, we have made so many commitments and made so many people dependant on government that there is no quick and easy way to return our government back to the people and away from the power-grabbers in washington dc.
