>> Now we also have trade tariffs. Are trade tariffs helpful to the overall global economy or not. Yes or No? <<

shouldn't you be concerned with what's helpful to the american economy first and foremost?

>> The USA' wealth is dependent on the global economy <<

more so than it should be. we have traded with the world since the settlers first arrived. so we have always been a part of the global economy. so it's not a question of whether we are part of the global economy or not, it's simply a question of how intertwined and entangled do we want to become?

>> So was the USA's wealth dependant on the world economy yes or no?? <<

you are phrasing the question as if it's an issue of black or white, yes or no. part of our wealth was derived from world trade, so in that sense, yes. but on the other hand, we were less dependant than we now are in other areas, so no.

>> Is Buchanan supposed to be having an intelligent debate here?? Buchanan's use of percentages and statistics is pathetic imho. <<

i think you want to pigeonhole buchanan the way everyone else does. you want to turn the debate into free trade vs no trade. buchanan believes in free markets, just as long as they serve the best interests of the nation. he believes in fair trade.

>> What are the factors that causes the depression? <<

that is a whole different can of worms. it certainly wasn't the result of tarrifs.

>> We will have a depression for sure if we just have some hard boiled brainless political speeches thrown about. <<

what does that have to do with free trade and tariffs?
