Bangladeshi network plans expansion

CityCell, Bangladesh's CDMA network has plans to spend some US$30 million on expanding its network. Talking to The Daily Star newspaper, Pacific Bangladesh Telecom's (PBTL) Managing Director, Faisal Morshed Khan said that the company plans to expand the CityCell network capacity from 100,000 lines to 250,000. "We are now more confidant after the devastating blaze which gutted about 65 % of our cable, switching and transmission equipment," the newspaper reported him as saying, referring to the fire in Dhaka last month.

The company currently has some 80,000 subscribers, and plans to add 50,000 new customers by June. The company also plans to introduce SMS and PrePay tariffs later this year.
