Sound comments on the mortars inability to hit caves and the minumum range factors.... But the fact that the enemy possessed them apparently shook up our guys and proved effective at least for harassment and suppressive fires. Thus, for the enemy they possessed some utility, and I can't believe they are better trained that our boys. And our folks knew that mortars had been used in Tora-Bora. And the article clearly showed that those 60mm mortars were effective against that one position, and in fact, saved their bacon..

But there has been repeating footage we've seen in the media showing a soldier using an AT-4 to take out a cave, so obviously they had that kind of support, which maybe they believed compensated for keeping their mortars home. But since those are one-shot tricks, they have to be constantly resupplied with new rounds at 15lbs apiece.

But you also have to understand Unclewest... My first MOS was 11C.. so I'm a bit biased.. :0)

And you're right... it's time to drop further public discussion of this since I'm probably kicking a dead horse until further info comes out.
