SL - There are two main flavors of cdma. cdma 20001X is what QCOM is advising. The GSM brigade mainly the Europeans have used ewvery trick in the book to prevent QCOMs preferred system from beign able to be adopted in Europe. ( And they have the balls to complain about the US and the Steel tarrifs!! some cheek)

QCOM owns the IPR to both of these flavore and will receive royalties on both systems but the W-CDMA system has other IPR partcipators that will not reduc e the American share of teh royalties but will up the price to ensure that people like ERICY and NOK get some royalties as well.

Without a toe hold in the IPR NOK will revert to being an outdoor worker as it was twenty years ago making boots for the Red Army. The Finns joined the EU to get EU muscle to prtoect them and it is working very well or it was until QCOM came along and took some IPR on the Laws of Physics that gives them a lock on cdma.

At the moment cdma is about 20% of the World market. Over the next two/three years it is predcited to grow to 100%.
