IBM delivers leadership performance and price/performance with new xSeries server
(Read the parts in bold. Also a note to the AMDroids - when IBM says the total solution will be available in September, they are talking about all the additional support and hardware that they used to provide the benchmarks. The bare-bones server is available now.)

March 12, 2002 ... IBM® today expanded the award-winning xSeries™ product line with the announcement of new models featuring the Intel® Xeon™ MP processor.
Benchmark Leader
IBM has proved its leadership in the high-end Intel server market by delivering superior results on a wide range of industry-standard benchmarks:
o Number-one performance for a 4-way server on the TPC-C online transaction processing benchmark: outperforming the Compaq ProLiant DL580 by more than 40%
o Number-one performance for a 4-way server on the TPC-W e-commerce benchmark: outperforming the Dell PowerEdge 6400 by 24%
o Number-one performance and price/performance for a 4-way server on the 100GB TPC-H business intelligence benchmark
o Number-one performance for 4- and 8-way servers on SAP® SD Standard Application Benchmarks
o Number-one performance for a 4-way server on Microsoft Exchange 2000 benchmark.(1)
o New levels of performance for a 4-way server on TPC-C online transaction processing benchmark
The xSeries 440 achieved performance of 55,138.6 tpmC and price/performance of $6.98/tpmC. The total solution is available September 10, 2002. This result sets a new TPC-C performance record for a 4-way server. The xSeries 440 server used four Intel 1.6GHz Xeon MP processors and ran Microsoft® SQL Server 2000 and Microsoft Windows® 2000 Datacenter Server.
Leading performance and price/performance for business intelligence applications
The new xSeries 440 set a new world record for performance and price/performance for a 4-way system running the TPC-H benchmark, which models a decision-support system for business intelligence applications. The xSeries 440 achieved a Composite Query-per-Hour Metric of 1,486 QphH @ 100GB and price/performance of $122/QphH @ 100GB with an availability date of September 10, 2002. The price/performance result is the best ever for any TPC-H configuration. The xSeries 440 was configured with four 1.6GHz/1MB Xeon MP processors and ran Microsoft Windows 2000 SQL Server and Windows 2000 Advanced Server.
Powerful performance for e-commerce computing
The xSeries 440 database server, together with the xSeries 330 (functioning as Web, image and Web cache servers), delivered an industry-leading performance result of 9,666 WIPS @ 10,000-item database and price/performance of $33.92/WIPS@10,000, running the TPC-W benchmark. The total solution availability is September 10, 2002. This new IBM result ranks first in the TPC Top 10 TPC-W Results by Performance for a 10,000-item database. The xSeries 440 database server was configured with four Xeon MP 1.6GHz/1MB processors and 4GB of memory, and ran Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and Windows 2000 Advanced Server.
Leadership performance and outstanding scalability for a 4- and 8-way server running the SAP SD 2-tier benchmark
Running the SAP R/3® Centralized SD (Sales and Distribution) Standard Application Benchmark on 4- and 8-way configurations, the xSeries 440 server achieved 312 and 520 SD benchmark users, respectively. Each configuration used the 1.6GHz Xeon MP processor and ran DB2® UDB Version 7.2 and Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server.
Outstanding performance for e-mail environments
The xSeries 440 server, configured with four 1.6GHz Xeon MP processors, supported 11,300 users running the Microsoft Exchange 2000 MAPI messaging benchmark, surpassing the performance achieved by other similarly configured servers.
The xSeries 360 server, configured with four 1.6GHz Xeon MP processors, supported 10,200 users running the Microsoft Exchange 2000 MAPI messaging benchmark.
XSeries 360: Top Ten TPC-C by Price/Performance
Announced worldwide in November 2000, the xSeries 360 server has demonstrated its ability as a price/performer. This server achieved 23,027.66 tpmC and price/performance of $4.41/tpmC, with total solution availability of September 10, 2002. The server used two 1.6GHz Xeon MP processors and ran Microsoft SQL Server and Windows 2000 Server.
