Violence and suppression have never
ever resolved anything......

A more accurate statement is -

"Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor, and the contrary opinion [that violence never settles anything] is wishful thinking at its worst. Breeds that forget this basic truth have always paid for it with their lives and their freedoms."

Jean V. Debois
Starship Troopers

That doesn't mean that violence is generally a good thing but it does often resolve things and if you are non-violent, have enemies and have no one to protect you, you often simply die.

Tim

Violence and suppression have never ever resolved anything........if you doubt that, then look at our own beginnings.

This is a ridiculous statement. I can think of no more violent an act than dropping the Bomb on Japan, and it certainly resolved WWII, and in the most efficient way possible.

After the liberals crouched, frightened, cowering, in the late 70s about "nuclear proliferation", the threat of extreme violence (i.e., the elimination of M.A.D. as a deterrent against us) ended the Cold War and the attendent concerns.

The inability to negotiate with Saddam is a fact; he understands only violence. So, when you want to negotiate with him, you have to either use or threaten to use violence.

Violence will solve most problems. It may not always be the best solution, but it certainly has the potential to be lasting.
