re: 3G EDGE

<< if EDGE is declared ITU-3G >>

I believe it already is (updated last fall). Just like HDR (1xEV-DO) rides the coattails of 1x/3xMC (even though 3xRTT for all practical purposes is history), it rides the coattails of IMT-SC.

Second funniest thing I have seen recently was when Nokia showed up at the CDG Digevent last October 23rd and Juha Lappalainen presented EDGE as 3G.

I don't know how he kept a straight face. This was right after the ITU acceptance of EDGE update.

Funniest thing I have seen recently is that CDG has since pulled the "Event".

It is the only one I can remember them pulling.

EDGE shall NOT be spoken in CDMAland, at least in "the light of day".

Let me put it this way, if 1xRTT (cdma2000) Release 0 - which is NOT an ITU IMT-2000 standard can be called 3G instead of "an interim step to 3G" like it originally was called - then EDGE can be called "3G".

Glad to see the crew from Espoo can play "Smoke & Mirrors" almost as well as the San Diegans in the San Diegans backyard.
