Re: "In Korea, a lot of Air National Guard units were called up for overseas duty, so for all you know it was supposed to be a quick way to follow in his father's footsteps as a pilot ..."

Yeah. Right.

Neocon. When statisticians return with findings contrary to the ones expected by those who hire them, they either rework the stats or lose the contract. You know that. That isn't my poll. The San Francisco Chronicle ran it. You may think you enjoy the same freedoms now as you did before 9/11. You are mistaken.

Korea was not Viet Nam and during the Viet Nam era you could not get into the Guard unless you were well connected and the Guard served little overseas duty during Nam. During Nam every students goal upon graduation from college was getting into the National Guard, only Dan Quayle and George Bush were put at the head of the line. And then he gets to be a pilot no less, talk about being connected!

a Bush aide and a retired Guard personnel officer who has assisted the Bush campaign in assessing the governor's records suggested that Bush might have lost interest in the Guard during that year.
