hey, guess what? Coincidentally I wrote the word "kind" on the dry erase board in my office last night at about 4am in response to a presentation I had watched on public television.

Why? I wanted to explore this as a human attitude. It seems kindness has to be intended at some level. It is not kind of the Human Resources department to make sure your insurance covers your emergency; it is their duty. It is just as possible for a Human Resources professional to be kind or cold in the performance of their duties as anyone else. It is not necessarily kind to give a struggling employee an advance on wages if the motive is to create a strong work force for yourself toward future profits. There are kind ways to extend this kind of helping hand as well as oppressive ways, such as making the person feel some debt beyond the economics of the thing. It is kind of an acquaintance to offer a health remedy or encouragement toward well being. As with many human qualities the appearance of goodness in this case may or may not be a mask for something else.

I wrote the word on my dry erase board so that I could remain aware of incidences of apparent kindness and to encourage something better in my self. Interesting that on the very same day my behavior would be described as "very unkind." Got me thinking in a constructive direction. Thanks.

"It was probably better-suited for a PM."

You musta forgot, I don't do PMs anymore. The attraction of flaming someone behind their back or to become implicated by someone else's flame war, is to great.
