It sounds beautiful, and I'd love to experience it. I doubt that commercialization of whale hunting for sushi restaurants would fall under "subsistence hunting."

But aren't the Japanese and others hunting whales for their own use anyway, beyond US coastal limits? Is there a ban or moratorium on US importation and sale of whale meat?

The Makah of Neah Bay in Washington State also hunt whales for consumption. They were granted this right about 5 years ago.
