I agree.

The US is the superior military and economic force in the world.
But if the US is ever seen as a threat to civilized countries our role in the world ceases to have moral credibility, and will inevitably decline, regardless of force.

Even "judicious" use of tactical nukes puts in that category with many civilized countries.

I think DOD is finding that out, considering the responses to this past week's nuclear option report.
