The fukking biggest liberal of the 20th century........Franklin D. Roosevelt A totally different time in history; there is a vast difference between the liberalism of FDR's time and that of today. You have given a great example of a respectable kind of liberalism that has long since disappeared. Had I lived in the time of FDR I quite likely would have been a liberal myself. In many respects liberalism has become synonomous with "weakness" -- Carter, Clinton, LBJ. More recently, there is also an implicit "lack of integrity" (although, I would never suggest Carter had any lack of integrity, but he almost made up for it with an absolute lack of competence).
