I live in New Orleans now, but I was born in a northern English town called Carlisle and lived there until I was 19 before going to the University of Nottingham. It's just eight miles from the Scottish border and has, in fact, been part of Scotland during its history. Both of my parents are from southern Scotland. I've been in the US since 1981, in New Orleans since 1989. Though, some of Louisiana is a bit more like a third world Caribbean country than lots of the mainland U.S. :-)
