engineer: OT: Because without him, they would not have gotten the funding? No, without him, it would have been built anyway if there was a valid scientific case for the telescope and the funds were in some budget, but it may well have gotten built somewhere else than WV. We have the Hubble Space Telescope - it's not the Jimmy Carter or Ronald Reagan or Ted Kennedy Space Telescope, thank goodness. I don't even care about the "pork barrel" politics that allowed Byrd to get the telescope built in his state. I just object to him getting his name on the darned thing. Just a personal thing that gets my back up, like chalk on the blackboard. David T.
