Probably, yes - but it's so much easier for them to play the propaganda game if they can claim with even minimal justification to be doing the same as the US...

What? You mean the prisons for tried, convicted and proud-to-confess terrorists - bombers, drugrunners and murderers? Who were even allowed some quasi-military status?

Exactly. The Taliban remnants see no quarter being given, see how they will be treated (and probably hear far worse, given ME propaganda) - so they will hardly hesitate at doing likewise. They're fanatics, so I don't know how well it would have worked otherwise... but what are troops (and fighters) of other 'evil' nations going to suspect, about how they'll be treated?
