An eight-way x440 server with 16 GB of SDRAM costs $50,000, which IBM officials said is about 77 percent less than a similarly configured Unisys system

Whoa, that is cheap!

An 8 way Compaq 900 MHz PIII Xeon with 16 GB of memory, and assuming other hardware about equal is $94,571. And that's the older technology (PIII Xeon). IBM, the low cost server solution vendor. This oughta help push those new Xeons.
