"The average citizen has almost no recourse left"

Now you are talking very seriously.

The question is: what do we do in the face of an all-powerful central government?

Who among current political or business leadership is not corrupted or totally lacking in intellectual testosterone ?

Surprisingly, this turns out to be a problem in a prosperous economy like ours, not just in a Russian, Latin American or Saudi Arabian dictatorship. In those poorer countries the threat is simply violence and death. In our prosperity the threat is lack of pay-off, easy nepotism in government and business jobs. Plus, eventually, elaborately sanctioned violence and of course the occasional "Texas Suicide".

And once the "Mighty Wurlitzer" is in effect, we have only the internet and neighborhood meetings to counter with.

Neighborhood Watches are a powerful force. If citizens get together without benefit of mass-media intervention -- without the talking heads telling us what our opinions should be -- they'll start to put two and two together.
