Do you believe that EDGE and W-CDMA will enable the lowest cost per megabit of any wireless technology?

If it's in 80% of phones, it's virtually assured...

Depends on if users use 1Mbps or 16Mbps/site??

And additionally on the sites, as well as on the content, and especially on what the user is willing to pay for.

Why is this so difficult??

Ilmarinen

Now, what was the difference between EDGE and GSM, for the umpteenth time??

And how come WCDMA projected slightly better than EDGE when above 2Mbps/site??

Not to forget 16Mbps/site?? (32,000-QAM for 1.25MHz Quack-CDMA and very lonely, sitting very still,
on the lonlely park bench, lots of antenna arrays sticking up from the head??)

Hmm, I think one guy in saudi had some desert cells just alone for himself, to keep up with CNBC
when visiting the "tribes" (all according to CNBC, they usually produce what they air)

Slacker,

<< Do you believe that EDGE and W-CDMA will enable the lowest cost per megabit of any wireless technology? >>

No.

I believe that W-CDMA with the HSDPA extension will deliver about the same effective throughput per user as 1xEV-DV and that EDGE and 1xRTT will deliver about the same effective throughput.

I personally don't think 1xEV-DO is going much of anywhere. Great technology. Limited market. No economies of scale.

I also continue to believe that the whitepaper called "Economics of Wireless Data" is a hokey piece of trash.

Bill Clift's and Chris Pearson's comment's on the "3GAmericas" CC today were interesting relative to near term GSM capacity increases and Clift's comment on Superpatriot Andy Seybold 2/25/2002 editorial was most appropriate. Glad I listened in.

Advantages in the early going on "cost per megabit" to cdma2000, but long term to EDGE/WCDMA.

Niche technology v. mainstream technology and the economies of scale that accrue to same.

But this mobile wireless telephony game is NOT about "cost per megabit".
