Re: "The greatest public menace stems from public criminals, rather than private ones." A few decades ago I might have agreed with you. But I don't think this is the case anymore. Lots of people ... including many retirees ... have gotten wiped out because of Keating, S&L scandal, Enron, unethical stock brokers. When Uncle Sam screws up, the damage is more spread out.
