Using IB for your primary datafeed has to take into consideration several things:

1: Reliability... if the IB feed locks up (I see it a few times a week) then you will loose data. And my Inet connect drops IB at least 10 times a day.....

2: Update frequency.... IB states, "Prices are updated at most once per second." So if you are trading a low vol stock or contract you could get away with it. Now, if you trade the QQQ's catching all the vol will be a major problem. Of course if you only use price this won't effect you.

3: Data "Relativity".... A trade isn't a single event, it is two, comprising of a price event and a size event. In my mind I see a problem, again with fast moving issues, as to the correct matching of last price and last size... It may not be matched. IMO IB should have implemented a trade "TYPE"(VB) and corresponding cpp "STRUCT" to insure price-size matching....

With all that said I do use it for a couple low accuracy apps such as a trade simulator for electronic paper trading. The VB control OCX is very simple to use. I can send anyone a simple demo project in VB6 if they want... just let me know.
