TAIPEI, March 14 (Reuters) - Networking gear titan Cisco Systems Inc (NasdaqNM:CSCO - news) said on Thursday it expects ``sooner rather than later'' to see a pick-up in demand from mainland China, a key market depressed by a restructuring of China Telecom.

Several communications equipment makers have said that orders from China -- a crucial source of revenue during an otherwise dismal period -- have slowed in recent months.

They have attributed that partly to a massive restructuring of state fixed-line giant China Telecom, which is taking longer than expected.

Gordon Astles, president for Asia-Pacific operations at California-based Cisco, also cited China's export-dependent economy and problems in the country's banking sector as factors possibly weighing on demand.

Asked when demand from mainland China would pick up, Astles told a Merrill Lynch conference: ``People I talk to keep on hoping it will be in the subsequent quarter.''
