Three companies will start manufacturing the product in the second half of fiscal 2002.

The companies said the common specifications for PSRAM chips will help shorten the design cycle and improve design efficiency in the mobile communication products market. The move also could help makers of such products eliminate the need to customize designs for each product, the companies said in a joint statement.
