AMD HAS GAINED MARKET SHARE from arch rival Intel according to figures publiched by Gartner Dataquest. The reseach firm says AMD's market share grew from 18 per cent in 2000 to 22 per cent in 2001.

Yeah, but what have you done for me lately, the old saying goes. That trend has turned in the last 3 quarters (including this one most likely), as you well know. Otellini yesterday:

"Besides seasonal factors, he said he expects market share expansion and the introduction of up to 4,000 new products to drive growth for Intel this year."

Dan3,<<<AMD boasts of corporate gains - Eating into Intel's pie>>>

How come it does not add up? I mean, I have been reading this and other such headlines for at least the last 5 years. If I were to add up all the gains AMD boasts of, they would own about 349% of the retail market, 225% of the SME market, and by your account 9 gadzillion % of the white box market.

All this boasting only begats a cycle of boasting.
