Every once in a while you get a sign that America isn't totally bent. Today seems to be Arthur Andersen's day of destiny. And a dust bin future would be just deserts.

Up here in Central Oregon, we're fighting a two-headed hydra. Cogentrix and Duke Power are separately pursuing merchant power plants. Sending the power to California and the profits to North Carolina, leaving the pollution and water rape with us. And the County Commissioners seem to think this is good business. I guess all they can see is someone lining their pockets for a special favor. They've already figured out a way to abuse the enterprise zone tax rebates, utterly failing to create the jobs that the tax scheme was supposed to generate, but taking full advantage of the means to escape property taxes. Very bad public administration, IMO.
