OT on Sun Tzu
Thanks. Another foundation of Sun Tzu's method was the emphasis on avoiding losses. He put it this way. You do not have the ability to win, rather the ability to defeat yourself. So match weakness with strength and avoid confronting an enemy where he is strong. Stay safe and wait for the enemy to be overstretched. Then pounce on the enemy's weakness and seize the moment.

In Japan (and many other far east countries), there are books that interpret Sun Tzu's principles to deal with situation ranging from family matters to career and office politics. In the US I've only seen this effort directed towards stock market and business decisions.

cheers,
