That is wonderful that you feel inspired to do something. I wish more people did. Since most places give you training before you work with the kids, I think all you need is intelligence (which I know you have) coupled with affection and enthusiasm. Children will do almost anything out of love. They endure abusive parents because of their desperate need to love someone. If they will do that, what WON'T they do for a kind adult who gives them affection and rewards them for becoming educated? I always think before my lessons "uh oh- this is too hard. I've expected too much. I adapted this from a high school lesson- WHAT was I thinking?" And then my kids take to it, and run with it, and surprise me with their brilliance. Sometimes it takes a while for kids to like you enough to work, but most children are like little coiled springs of affection- just waiting for a caring adult to come along.

Mrs. P,
I am so impressed that you are going to try this-- What organization will you be going through? Do you know yet? You are inspiring me.

And I don't think you need to worry at all because you will be great at this.
I know these things.
