Bravo, Neo! What an eloquent and moving statement.

Love of country, faith, and gratitude for all the sacrifices of prior generations to ensure our nation's survival and our well-being are very much alive and well in the U.S.A. today. That we keep them so -- and thus our country strong and resolute -- is the world's best hope for a brighter tomorrow.

Thanks for sharing your keen perspectives.

JC

Only one minor addition to said lament...

None of it would have happened had Britain and France taken a strong stand against Hitler in the '30s.

And where, oh where, was the strongest, largest, richest, most powerful, most advanced nation of the Free World? Where was the only one with a larger military budget than Germany, the only democracy with more resources, more land, more people, the only one who could have stopped it in its tracks?

You are elevating non sequitur to the level of an art form. It is quite breathtaking.

You wrote a gloomy post bemoaning the following phenomena:

1. There is a loony anti-Semite on SI.
2. SI's enforcement of the TOU is inconsistent.
3. There are people on SI who are irreligious and not ashamed to say what they think.
4. There are people on SI whose political convictions and interpretations of history differ from yours.

It was suggested, by me, that if you allow these things to affect your equilibrium or mental state in any way, you take these discussions way too seriously. That I think is true: you might as well get depressed over snow in January, or heat in August.

And you respond with an eloquent essay on the holocaust.

What on earth do any of the discussions here have to do with that? Do you suggest that laughing off the occasional SI village idiot, accepting the reality that the SI enforcers frequently get things wrong, and coping with the reality that not everybody agrees with us is somehow encouraging the arrival of a new holocaust? If so, you really do need to take a break and get away from here.

Do you really believe that SI and the US would be a better place if only everyone would unite behind one set of beliefs - yours, of course? That, I admit, would be a scary idea, as scary as would be the idea of SI and the nation uniting behind Evile's ideas, or mine, or anybody else's. It doesn't scare or depress me, though, because I see no sign at all that it is likely to happen.

Relax, dude. Turn the box off. Go take a walk in a forest, or on a beach, or look at a river. Things are not as bad as you fear that they are, and not as good as you would like them to be. That will be the case again tomorrow, and very likely the day after as well. We all have things we have to do to keep it from getting worse and to help it get better, and we will all do these things better if we keep some perspective on it all.

Relax.
