You know, I think that's true. While I've always been very much at ease with my own children, their friends, nieces, nephews, etc...a child who is a "stranger" seems a bit intimidating. I think it may be because of the natural wariness that we perceive coming from the child and the internal pressure that it creates as we look to find ways to overcome it.

Girl first....now that is good advice.
