An armed society is a secure society. It is as an armed society that we established the original colonies, crossed a continent, and tamed a wilderness. Back when every man owned a gun, there was lots of risk taking, for example, the Revolutionary War, the exploration of the West, the Gold Rush. There was lots of creativity, for example, the development of a native literature: Fenimore Cooper, Washington Irving, Edgar Allen Poe, Herman Melville, Mark Twain. Your comments, as usual, are unsubstantiated, baseless, and a mere reflection of prejudice. And I have never even owned a gun.........

<<An armed society is a frightened society. >>

I have several guns, all loaded. I'm not frightened. I sleep very well. Several of my neighbors have been broken into but never my home.

An armed society is a polite society. You never know when the guy you are trying to rob will pull his iron and settle up. You think better of the matter and just tip your hat.

"When the people fear the government you have tyranny, when the government fears the people you have liberty" - - Thomas Jefferson

I fear the government more than my armed neighbor.

Would that we could have a disarmed, safe and trustworthy society, like England years ago.

An armed society is a frightened society. There is little risk taking or creativity. Go along to get along, that's the motto of the armed society.

Back to your lathe, and shut up and grind just as I tell you to. I want 100 identical dowel rods an hour from you, and don't get fancy.

You'd better go along to get along, or I'll take your guns away.
