Good post, frank.

He's quite right. It's part of the fight against against totalitarianism, an important one, but only a part. The israeli-palestinian clash is a comfort for the regimes of Egypt and Saudi and it's in their interests (and those of regimes of Iraq, Syria, and Iran) to see it continue and so their support for their proxies there must be stopped and their proxies destroyed.

Yes, exactly. The maddening thing is, I believe most of the Bush administration understands that Clinton was played for a chump by our Arab allies, who insisted that the Israeli clash must be solved first, while doing everything in their power to prevent a solution. So why are they listening to that fool Powell, whose mistakes got us into this mess in the first place?

I do not view Arab countries as totalitarian but un-developed and not democratic. To label them totalitarian is to demonize them, which seems to be America's latest foreign policy procedure.

Also, just because Israel is more of a democracy than the surrounding Arab countries is not enough of a reason to wage a war on them and prop up our colony there.
