Think of the poor folks who don't respond though. Not only will they be overweight, but now they will have the guilt of thinking they are fat because they cannot get right with God. That seems like making life even more harsh, for someone who was suffering to begin with.

Praying as you down a pan of brownies is another matter.

Perhaps if you pray that they won't go straight to your hips, they won't?

Overeaters Anonymous
It's doubtless cruel to laugh, but I find an extremely comic picture in mind at hearing of this group... as a bunch of grossly obese people tiptoe down a corridor and creep stealthily into a room, trying to avoid being noticed or recognised as 'overeaters'...
The Anonymous might work for AA, but it's really a bit harder if you're 200kg and spherical...

On the religious aspect, I agree it might work if you believe, but this has its own dangers. Someone I knew well was an alcoholic, but she refused to attend AA after the first couple of meetings; she was an agnostic (too spiritual to be atheist), loathed being 'preached at' and was repelled by the belief system she felt they were trying to require of her.
