Japan has certainly fallen a long way from the heady days of the late 1980's.... It's almost a basket case these days. Can you imagine carrying 300,000 dollars worth of gold down the block to your car in the average American city? I would hire a private armed guard to do that here! <g> And 20 cents per year interest annually on each 1,000 dollars places in a savings account, what a deal! Another indicator of the bad times in Japan is the recently broken string of sold out days for the Osaka sumo tournament which stretched all the way back to 1974! Sumo fans are pretty loyal, so if they can't sell out Osaka any longer, folks in Japan are definitely hurting big time.
