Modern code is very modular, object oriented code, in particular. Even a single-purpose executable is constantly making calls to many different locations in memory. Many (sometimes most) of the operations consist of calls to the operating system or supporting dlls (or assemblies) all of which are loaded into different locations in the processor's physical memory space - and often at locations ending in 0x000 (which can result in cache thrashing if the cache hasn't enough "ways").
