Yes, he was well opposed--- primarily by the conservatives on the thread. I was comparing Jeff's behavior in the different instances. I do not think that the slander of ethnic groups is an ordinary political opinion. However, I was prepared to accept Jeff's ruling. It was the juxtaposition of the two things that I dislike. As for the vulgarity, well, I have seen people be very mean without vulgarity, so I do not think that picking on direct insult of that sort makes sense. Additionally, I think that one has to make allowances for loss of temper or different debating standards, or it will chill speech. Yes, sometimes things go overboard. I did not, though, think that JLA deserved a weeks off and the Evil One deserved nothing.......

So yes, I am glad JLA got suspended.

X, I read JLA's post in real time and in context. There was no threat in it. He was simply acknowledging that the intensity of the debate had been ratcheted up another notch and that he was game.
