The only thing holding down the price of CKFR is how long it will take the analysts to realize that CKFR owns the connections that make online bill pay really convenient and user friendly.

Sooner of later people are going to get tired of posting payments to both their personal finance management software and to an online bill pay site. All they have to do is forget it to post to one or the other once or twice and they will be clamoring for integration.

Whenever consumers realize that they can post their bill payments once -- through Quicken or Money -- and not have to make an entry somewhere else, they'll want their banks and portals to give them a service that will interface with their personal finance software.

At the moment, it looks like Checkfree has that market sewn up.

FWIW: From Killen Report 3-25-02:

CheckFree Refutes Deutsche Bank Alex Brown Report

Atlanta, GA-based CheckFree Corp [Nasdaq: CKFR] last week refuted a Deutsche Bank Alex Brown report regarding CheckFree's relationship with Wells Fargo. The report, issued Friday, March 15, suggested that Wells Fargo will no longer use CheckFree's EBPP services by the end of the calendar year.

In response, Avid Modjtabai, EVP of Wells Fargo's Consumer Internet Services, said "We have several important partners in the EBPP space, including CheckFree, Metavante, Spectrum, and others. We expect to continue these relationships, and expect all three to have a role in our go-forward platform."

"We are disappointed with the speculation in the Deutsche Bank Alex Brown report," said David Mangum, CheckFree CFO. "We continue to have a strong partnership with Wells Fargo, and look forward to continuing to service their needs."

Atlanta, GA-based CheckFree (www.checkfree.com) is a provider of interactive eBilling and eStatement services and applications.
