Well, Thames, we all wish we had done differently in hindsight. The important thing is that it all came out o.k. It was a miracle that the very right people (Churchill, Roosevelt, etc.) were in the very right place at the very right time. Our two countries had a marvelous alliance, and Winston played it very wisely in being patient for the U.S. to come to its own awakening. Here it is a half-century later and we are still each other's best friend when push comes to shove. As to Superman, he had some moral thing about not using his powers to intervene. It was annoying. But then, God did pretty much the same thing, so who's to say ....;-) JC
