I'm going out and throw a tarp over my clothesline. We figured out what happened. We have a woodchuck who lives in the toolshed attached to the side of this almost 200 year old farm house. He or she has burrowed under and into it, and he or she and makes him or herself at home there. We've tried everything to capture him or her for years, including a Havaheart trap, including paying someone to try to catch him or her. He or she is canny, though, and we've come to accept his or her right to live. But he or she obviously got sprayed by a skunk, and his or her smell was so strong that it got into the house, somehow. We figured this out because there are some things hanging in the tool shed, old jackets, ponchos, that got struck the worst, and the toolshed gets better and then worse. I am tired of Havaheart and of woodchucks, which eat flowers and shrubs (not that I have any of those left after the predatory deer), so maybe I'll get a gun and shoot him or her.
