Tim,

And I don't buy the point Tony made that the consensus is that flash is what nuked them this last time around.

Don't give me credit for that one. I said that was the reason some AMDers gave, and I'm no AMDer.

Tony

Tim,

Re: "Must be because of those accounting tricks that are giving Intel gross
profits of $2 B a quarter (even $5 B a year ago) while "tricking" AMD into
losing money consistently for many years."

Intel is just using "smoke and mirrors", their Fabs are not "real".
Just ask Ali "architecture thingy" Chen or Albert "mad russian" Kovalyov
to "explain" everything. Their delusions are very "real" to them. <ggg>

Make It So,
Yousef

Re: Fact is, Intel produces enough gross profit per quarter, even now, to pay for a brand-new $2 billion fab each and every quarter.

Numbers in Millions except for the last one.

Intel's profits for the past 4 quarters:

Income before taxes $794 $137 $346 $906 = $2,183

Capital costs for the past 4 quarters:
($1,136) ($1,365) ($2,144) ($2,664) = $7,309

Capital costs counted as expenses for the past 4 quarters:
$1,093 $1,054 $1,050 $934 = $4,131

Difference between actual capital costs and what was admitted to in the earnings statement $7,309 - $4,131 = $3,178

Income before taxes minus deferred capital costs = -$2,183

Intel lost $2,183,000,000 as an ongoing operation last year.
