Yeah, those projections had better be wrong or were going to join Brazil. Foreign money during the late 1990's looked at the US as a safe haven and helped keep our markets afloat (and of course, helped inflate the bubble). If the debt load gets anywhere near that high, we can forget that.

The US defaulting on public debt is not impossible under circumstances like those.
