"The pilots, they said, were devout Muslims, and no devout Muslim would commit suicide."

Yes, apart from being congenital liars - as the Koran itself encourages Muslims, where "infidels" are concerned - they do have a particularly adept sense of the absurd.

As for Israel's withdrawal, I understand our government is attempting to forge a coalition to rout Iraq, but I thought the rule was that "The mission defines the coalition." Forcing our best friend in the region, Israel, to reward Palestinian murder in this way is outrageous. Even Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak dared to threaten Israel today. I am ashamed of our government - ok if we go after and annihilate terrorists who target us, but when beleaguered Israel dares, we play the hypocrite, pandering to assassins. It is a national disgrace. We should be helping Israel wipe out the Palestinian Authority. Or does the government somehow believe that showing respect for murdering thugs will somehow make us safer? It is incredible. How little we have learned...
