albert, Re: "re: The prices that were cut on the Pentium 4 in Q2 allowed Intel to gain market share in Q3
sounds like you're saying that q2 had highest market share. No matter how you spin it now q2 amd's market share would have to be at least 20%."

AMD did have their highest market share in Q2, and it was above 20%. But that has nothing to do with the argument.

When Barrett said in June (your link) that Intel "has had" 80% market share, he didn't mean *at that moment*. "Has had" is the past tense, which indicates that having 80% market share happened some time before the time he made this comment. Since Intel *did* have 80% market share in the past, the first part of his comment is true.

"We have had 80 per cent plus marketshare," he said. "We intend to stay at that level or move upward."

For the second part of the comment, we look at things in retrospect. For example, we know by looking at the facts that AMD had gained more than 20% market share in Q2, and Intel gained it back by the end of Q4. Therefore, the second part of Barrett's comment is also true, and that completely validates his whole quote.

So it seems that it is you who owe me an apology. I won't hold my breath, though.
