But none of these authors, from Kierkegaard s point of view, has discovered the most important relationship, the
one thing needful: the relationship between the individual and God.

Don't know the book from which this Kierkegaardian observation comes but the use of the term "God" in K's thought is not a simple one. K's concept of God as the limit of the finite, the point at which one encounters death and unreasonable tragedy, is not an easy one for any culture, let alone contemporary American culture which works with a much more limited and benign conception of God.

Also K worked within a Hegelian framework, much as the early Marx did. So any serious understanding of the ways in which his concepts differed from our own would need to work through that difference.

I'm not sure that ethical or moral discussion of islamism in psychological or philosophical depth beyond a certain point is necessary or desirable. Once it's clear the movement has its roots in nostalgia for mythical time of golden age and that it says destruction of those who don't share or submit to the vision is desirable, then what the modern world has to do is pretty self evident, I think.

Kill the leadership, dismantle the organizations producing the message, provide an alternative vision for those trapped by the false message and do enough to make the the alternative believable and acceptable because we can't kill them all. Even if we could kill them all, and did, it would be bad for us.

I believe you have done a good job at characterizing the "eugenics" of the 21st century. Plurality in America and Israel is a weak trait that must be purged. Lets kill everyone who doesn't think and worship like us. Hail to the Chief and praise the Lord.

Good post Frank. Your Rx sounds about right. Don't think it can be effected by spooks (even of the military variety) alone though.

Btw, ever read The Haj by Leon Uris?

Makes sense.

Once an understanding is achieved (beyond reasonable doubt, as it were), appropriate action is needed. Otherwise, to borrow an expression, a nation risks “Analysis paralysis”.

With the number of pages on the Web reaching into billions and everyone with an agenda “linking” the living lights out of any issue, in the future clear thinking will become more valuable than ever.

You and many others here generously contribute your time and effort to the discussion, and I would like to take the opportunity to thank you.
