AltKey,

Are you going out on the Sound or are you going to stick to lakes? Makes a huge difference in maintenance. Salt is the sneak-thief of your recreation budget.

I plan to use it primarily on the lake we go to in the Adirondacks. It's 9 miles long and it's width reaches 1 mile across.
It should be just the right size for this boat.
There is an island located at each end of the lake that could serve as my imagination's charted course destinations.
I could imagine them to be the Florida Keys of West and Largo, or possibly Catalina Island and Capistrano, or Jamaica and Barbados, or Martha's Vineyard and Block Island...

Each weekend it could be a different group taking a different course.

Nearby is Lake George with dozens and dozens of islands besides being approx. 32 miles long.

I'm not sure if I'd venture out on the Long Island Sound with it. It's a small boat. Even though the LI Sound is often comparable to a lake in calmness, I think I'd prefer the after taste of fresh water over salt water.

As you can see I'll probably be drinking a lot of it being that close to it.

Perhaps someday I'll work my way up to something where I can actually plot a course and go on adventure.
For now this little dinhy racer will help me learn much of the technique.

I sometimes think about how nice it would be to have a 28 footer docked in Connecticut less than an hour from my house. Then I could set sail for the weekend to Long Island where my brother lives in Northport. It might take me the same amount of time as driving considering the weekend traffic on the Long Island Expressway...

...and the view would be a lot better...

Ahhh... that would be nice.
