My opinion differs, in that we should seeks solutions that balance the pain and benefit. I agree that we have created an underclass that is exploited. However, I believe we could come up with a solution that involves amnesty, work visas, etc that would ease the transition from the current situation.

Case in point in the news recently: the removal of MBTE from gasoline. It is an environmental hazard, yet it's removal would (allegedly) cause the price of gas to climb to $3 a gallon or more. So, the practical solution is to phase out the removal over a period of up to three years. You may argue that $3 a gallon would be fine, in that the price would eventually stabilize and decline, but the pain and suffering caused to an already teetering economy may push us over the edge. Imagine a collapsed California economy rippling across the nation...
