perhaps you didn't see my posts about britain and the corn laws. around 1846 britain ushered in free trade with the repeal of these laws and it was all downhill from there. what i am saying is this. the british empire rose to prominence just the way all empires do--under protectionism. when the great empires turn to free trade and imperialism, they crumble.

the united states will be no different. we are following the same path many of the great empires took. a rise to prominence under protectionism, and now free trade and imperialism serving to be our downfall.
