Elmer, Elmer, Elmer...Once again over your head, it seems...You can't play the options game if you don't have the cash or equity margin in your account...surely you know that, at least...so one can't play the highly risky options game if one has no money...(Stated another way, and not unlike much of what you say, your para above includes two mutually exclusive statements...either you have the money and can play...or you don't and can't play)...once again, mutually exclusive statements seem to make sense to you...Perhaps that explains why you seem to speak out of both sides of your mouth so frequently???

Sigh.... Let me try again.

First let's keep in mind that most brokerage houses give you 3 or so days to settle a trade and you bought on Wednesday right? So you might have had the rest of the week to settle the trade. Then you said you

"Might have to sell 10 of the 100 Jan 20 calls (my FY02 options profit holdings) to cover this one..."

Now why would you have to sell some of your long calls if you have cash or margin to cover it?

Your post seemed to suggest that you need to raise cash to cover your Wednesday trade. I was offering you advice out of compassion and concern. I had only your best interests in mind...
